- Local singer Cher Maendel competes in the Top-32 elimination round on Canadian Idol, on CKY Ch. 5 at 7 p.m. Maendel joins Vancouver's Ashley Leitao, who lived in Winnipeg until she was five years old, and six other singers vying for a Top-10 spot. Viewers can vote for a favourite by calling a toll-free phone number. The two singers who pick up the most votes advance to the final group. Voting results are announced during a live show tomorrow at 7 p.m. This is Maendel's third trip to Canadian Idol. Last year, she and another local singer, Barrett Peitsch, missed making the Top-32 round by a hair. Peitsch performs on the June 28 show. Dave Moffatt, formerly of '90s pop group The Moffatts, is up next week. The Victoria-born Moffatt was living in Winnipeg when he auditioned for the show but has since moved to Calgary.
